After a recent report indicated that BPA (bisphenol A) plastic baby bottles may be detrimental to the health of babies, plastic baby bottles have become dead stock while glass ones have been gaining popularity among parents in Xiamen, reports Xiamen Economic Daily.

BPA, which can be released into liquids when a bottle is heated, can affect the baby’s immune system and may cause cancer. A salesperson in a baby store in Xiamen acknowledged that there has been an increase in demand of glass bottles recently after parents become aware that BPA plastic baby bottles may be harmful to their babies. “Currently, parents mainly choose glass baby bottles. A small number of those who still prefer plastic ones only buy plastic baby bottles labeled specifically with ‘No BPA’”, the salesperson added.

In addition, according to a reporter’s investigation, most PC baby cups and water bottles sold in some supermarkets are not labeled whether they contain BPA at all. As a result, it is difficult for parents to choose the right kind of products for their babies.
